About

OUR PURPOSE

We are on a mission to reimagine our consumption model to one that respects all people and the environment within the supply chainWe exist because we believe in the power that we each have, through our buying choices, to support the sustainable development of communities around the world through fair and ethical trade.

ABOUT FAIR SPACE

Fair Space collaborates with social enterprises, artisan groups and inspiring brands that are making the highest quality, socially responsible designs. We are lovers of beautiful things that carry unique stories of impact.

With over 15 years' experience working in the ethical and Fair Trade supply chain, founder Antonia Taylor has seen first-hand the impact that opening new markets for artisan products has for preserving cultural heritage and creating sustainable livelihoods in some of the worlds most disadvantaged regions. In a world of mechanised, mass-production and mindless consumption, we are joining a growing global movement that is slowing down and celebrating human centred production and design.

ABOUT FAIR TRADE

Fair Trade is a global movement of social enterprises that put people and planet at the heart of trading partnerships.

Image: World Fair Trade Organisation 10 Principles of Fair Trade

"Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers – especially in the South.

Fair Trade Organisations have a clear commitment to Fair Trade as the principal core of their mission. They, backed by consumers, are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade." World Fair Trade Organisation

Fair Space is an advocate of Fair Trade and many of the products we sell are Fair Trade Guaranteed (as listed in product bio). This is a rigorous auditing system overseen by the World Fair Trade Organisation that ensures that artisans are paid fairly, their human rights are respected and the environment isn’t harmed.

Fair Space also trades with smaller-scale social enterprises creating artisan products in disadvantaged regions.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Fair Space actively seeks out products and brands that are committed to using sustainably sourced materials, including natural and recycled materials. Respect for the environment is one of the 10 Principles of Fair Trade and there has been much innovation in the development of products made from recycled and upcycled waste materials.
